OTTN at Discovery 2010

The Ottawa Technology Transfer Network attended Discovery 2010 in Toronto on May 17-18. The conference showcased ideas, innovations and solutions that are shaping Ontario’s future. Once again, OTTN showcased some of its spin off technologies – Therapeutic Monitoring Systems and IWatchLife (acquired OTTN spin off Visual Cortek). Congratulations to University of Ottawa Students Georges El-Hage, Yue Yang and Alexandru Stefanescu who won the best university energy conservation project for their Smart and Efficient Wind Turbine System.

Ontario Genomics Institute (OGI) Information Session

 Researchers interested in upcoming funding opportunities from Genome Canada and OGI are invited to attend an information session on:

Two Genome Canada competitions:

  •  A $60 M combined open/targeted large scale project competition (> $30 M for research in forestry and environment, and  < $30M for agriculture, fisheries and human health sectors).
  •  A $24 M competition in support of the S&T Innovation Centres

 and Three OGI programs:

  •  Genomics Capacity Building workshop program ($10K/ workshop)
  • Genomics Publication Fund (GPF) to support open access publication (up to $3K/publication)

Technology Venture Challenge celebrates 10th anniversary

The Technology Venture Challenge (techvc.org) celebrated its 10th anniversary of promoting student innovation last night with a three student team business case competition with students from Carleton University and from the University of Ottawa.

The Tech Venture Challenge is Eastern Ontario’s most prestigious competition for encouraging post-secondary students to act on their technology business ideas. Established in 2000, participants in the TVC have gone on to start over 40 companies. The competition is run by volunteers from the educational and business communities and is fully funded through sponsorship from leading businesses. Read more of this post
