OCRI Awards Feature uOttawa Researchers and Students

Last night the 2011 OCRI Awards were held with over 500 attendees from industry and the research and education communities. A complete list of winners can be found here.

From uOttawa, notable among the winners were OCRI Researcher of the Year Dr. Ben Tsang Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Cellular & Molecular Medicine, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, University of Ottawa in recognition of his research in the area of diagnosis and treatment of female infertility, ovarian cancer and pregnancy complications. Dr. Stephany Bennett (Faculty of Medicine, uOttawa) was also a finalist for the award.

The OCRI Health Innovation Award winner was the ILI-Watch team, lead by Dr. Richard Davies, UOHI and many partners, including AMITA, the Ottawa Hospital and CHEO).

All three finalists for OCRI Student Researcher of Year were from the Faculty of Engineering at uOttawa: Israel De Leon; Dr. Jilin Zhou and the winner Dr. Rouhollah Alizadeh.

The winner of the OCRI Student Entrepreneur of the Year award Dr. Pouris Ghods, Giatec Scientific Inc. was a recent recipient of OTTN Proof-of-Principle funding.

The OCRI Co-op Student of the Year Award winner is Hubert (Haoyang) Duan, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Ottawa.

Among the other OCRI Awards presented were Most Promising Start-up Of the Year You i Labs and Company of the Year Kinaxis .
